About Us

We are a family based company which is operated by Steve and Susan Cocks. We operate a limited number of battlefield tours each year in order that we can provide the quality of personal service that is the leading aim of our company. We do not take more than 32 passengers on our scheduled tours and, to ensure your comfort, we use coaches with generous leg room. Our First World War Battlefield Tours focus on : Recalling the Somme (3 days), Ypres Remembered (3 days), Treading in Tommy's Footsteps (4 days), Chapters from the Western Front (4 days) and The Battles of 1917-1918 (4 days). Our World War 2 battlefield tours in 2012 take us to Normandy: Normandy and the D Day Landings.

We are a publicly listed limited liability company. Our tours are bonded by ABTOT for your protection and peace of mind.

Steve Cocks

Steve is a History graduate and was Head of History before he became a secondary school Headteacher. He has a long standing interest in the First World War, in which his grandfather served for four years, and a passion for twentieth century history and the Second World War, in which his uncle served in the RAF and was awarded the DFC. He has led tours to the battlefields for over 20 years and uses his in depth knowledge of the history of the 1st and 2nd World Wars to bring the sites to life. Steve is a memeber of The Guild of Battlefield Guides and is the guide on our tours.

Susan Cocks

Susan studied both History and English at university and has worked in secondary schools as an English teacher, Head of English and Assistant Headteacher. Susan’s historical interests have been inspired by many things including the variety of recollections she heard from her father and uncles who served in WW2. She is undertaking an MA in First World War Studies with Birmingham University. She has a deep interest in the poetry and literature of The Great War. She acts as tour manager on our tours ensuring the comfort of those who travel with us and dealing with any issues that could affect the quality of your experience. We are totally committed to the excellence in the quality of our battlefield tours; each tour is the result of careful research, meticulous planning and pre-visits to all sites and accommodation together with personal service throughout the tour.

Tour Organisation

Each battlefield tour is carefully researched and prepared and group members are provided with appropriate written background information, maps and diagrams. Tours include illustrated presentations before dinner for those who want this. Steve will make himself aware of the interests of group members and make every effort to address these where possible.

We only use new executive style coaches, with reclining seats, seat belts, a toilet and air conditioning. In addition to this, we limit the number of passengers we take on each tour to 32 and so ensure that the coach is not full. We believe that this will not only ensure you have a more enjoyable tour but it also enables us to treat all our passengers as individuals and so make your tour a more memorable one since you will not be ‘herded’ around in large groups and will be treated as an individual. We serve complimentary tea and coffee en route and bottled water is also provided each day. We are available throughout the day and evening and you are welcome to join us for your evening meal or just a drink.

Our tours include breakfast. We choose hotels in central locations as this gives our clients the option to eat in the hotel or to sample meals in local restaurants.

Our clients join our tours from across the UK, and indeed from across the world. We have pick up points that are convenient for a range of road, rail and air journeys and can advise you of a range of pick up points where you can safely leave your car and, if you wish, stay overnight close to the M4, M25, M26 and M20. There are regular internal flights and train services to Gatwick Airport where we regularly pick up clients. We are always happy to assist you by discussing your travel arrangements and pick up point from wherever you are travelling.
